Job Summary:

- Assistant District Attorneys are given substantial responsibility early in their careers

Responsibilities:

- Tries jury and bench criminal cases in San Francisco Superior Court
- Represents the People of the State of California in court appearances and written petitions, motions, appeals, and other court documents
- Interviews witnesses, conducts and supervises investigations, and writes legal briefs
- Prepares daily court calendar and maintains records of warrants and citations
- Receives and investigates complaints from the public and law enforcement agencies
- Performs research manually and via computer
- May represent the District Attorney to other law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations

Qualifications:

- Must be a member of the State Bar Association and licensed to practice in all state courts
- Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal laws, particularly as applied to civil and criminal laws
- Legal processes and techniques of courtroom and jury trial work
- Ability to speak and write effectively
- Exercise judgment and tact in dealing with court officials, juries, law enforcement agencies, and other governmental agencies
