Job Title: Associate, General Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Associate, General Counsel serves as the primary legal advisor for real estate and construction matters, which includes handling contract negotiation, drafting, and approval. The role also involves providing legal counsel to the leadership of a reputed firm on risk management, compliance, and strategic issues. The advisor will offer guidance on a wide range of legal topics such as student privacy, procurement, ethics, insurance, international education, and intellectual property. An essential part of the job is supporting campus safety through legal guidance on emergency operations and compliance with laws such as the CLERY Act. The Associate, General Counsel will participate in policy development, attend internal and external hearings, and collaborate with outside counsel on litigation. Additionally, the role involves advising stakeholders on legal matters, managing legal workflow, projects, and committee outcomes, and performing other functionally related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- The candidate must possess a Juris Doctor (.) or Bachelor of Laws (.) from an accredited law school.
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional legal experience in an institution of higher learning, a public agency, or a large, complex organization is required.
- The candidate must be a member in good standing of the Ohio State Bar or have licensure and/or be in good standing in another state on the date of initial employment. They must obtain a license to practice law in Ohio within six months of employment.
- Eligibility for appointment as Assistant Attorney General by the Ohio Attorney General is required.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under the reputed firm's Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy are necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education and/or public sector work, particularly in business and transactional law with an emphasis on real estate and construction, is preferred.
