**Job Title: Director of Rural Legal Services**

**Job Responsibilities:**

The Director of Rural Legal Services is a pivotal leadership position tasked with ensuring the delivery of high-quality, equitable legal services aimed at driving systemic change and empowering rural communities. This senior role involves:

- **Leadership and Strategy:** The Director is responsible for providing visionary leadership to Legal Directors, fostering a culture of excellence and equity. They are tasked with developing and implementing cross-functional strategies to promote systemic advocacy and impactful litigation.

- **Collaboration and Efficiency:** Establishing and refining case management and communication systems to enhance cross-unit collaboration and operational efficiency is a key responsibility. This ensures seamless integration of efforts across the four key legal units: Rural Justice, Housing, Employment, and Health.

- **Community Engagement:** The Director represents the organization in external forums, including public policy discussions, media engagements, and community events. This role involves building and maintaining partnerships with government agencies, funders, and community organizations to further the organization's mission.

- **Compliance and Oversight:** Ensuring adherence to organizational policies, grant requirements, LSC regulations, ABA Standards, and ethical obligations is crucial. The Director monitors advocacy outcomes to ensure they align with the organization's mission and strategic goals.

- **Resource Development:** Collaborating with the Resource Development and Finance teams to secure sustainable funding, manage grant deliverables, and drive programmatic growth is an essential duty.

- **Mentorship and Development:** The Director supervises and mentors Legal Directors and senior leaders, providing professional development opportunities and fostering an inclusive work environment.

**Education and Experience Information:**

- A minimum of 10 years of experience working with historically marginalized populations is required.
- At least 5 years of program management or supervisory experience is necessary, demonstrating a proven ability to lead and inspire teams.
- A minimum of 10 years in advocacy roles, with the majority being experience as an attorney, is required.
- Proven success in obtaining and managing grants for legal programs is essential.
- Expertise in systemic advocacy, policy work, and complex litigation is needed.
- Admission to the California Bar is mandatory.

**Highly Preferred Qualifications:**

- Experience addressing legal issues impacting rural, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and low-income populations is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with community lawyering principles and advocacy metrics is advantageous.
- Fluency in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in the organization's client communities is preferred.

**Salary Information:**

The position offers a diverse, family-friendly environment and compensation based on competitive public interest salaries. The estimated starting salary range for this position is $135,000 – $186,000. The organization provides a generous benefits package that includes 100% employer-covered medical, dental, vision, life, and short & long-term disability insurance for employees and up to 50% for dependents coverage. Additionally, there is a 401K retirement plan with organization contribution effective immediately. The organization also offers a generous paid leave policy which includes 15 days of sick leave, 15 holidays each year, and vacation (accruing 15 days for the first year of service and 20 days after one year of service).

**Additional Information:**

The organization requires that all employees are Fully Vaccinated, defined as a CDC-approved COVID vaccination and one booster shot. This offer is contingent on meeting this requirement.
