Advice to law firm management:
You will need to show you can put in sixty hours or more every week. Many lawyers are not fond of that arrangement. But the rewards will be many if you stick it out, work hard and make a good impression.
Pros:
Many new attorneys graduate from working here and go on to start their own firms elsewhere, but report that their experience at Lewis Baach prepared them for what lay ahead in the legal landscape.
Cons:
There are long working hours here. This job is considered to be one that will prepare you for partnership and future management jobs, whether at Lewis Baach or elsewhere.

Advice to law firm management:
Stop treating support staff like servants and playing favorites. Your favorites are trying to save their butts from being fired.
Pros:
They give you a bonus, holiday gift, and have occasional staff lunches or after work get-togethers - to appear collegial and team-oriented.
Cons:
Unfortunately, this is a group of smiling, backstabbing phonies. It is a clique. The core group are close friends who have been together for many years. They have loyal support staff who will throw you under the bus as they continue to work beside you as if nothing is wrong. The attorneys are treated like royalty while support staff are treated like servants. Not a trusting work environment.
Partners to Avoid and Why:
Aisha Bembrey is a worm. The hiring/firing committee are spineless toads. They will use you up. A pack of snobs.
Favorite Things About this Firm:
Some co-workers are genuinely nice.

At Lewis Baach we take seriously our professional and personal obligations to serve the public. We are proud of the work we have done to represent people who cannot afford legal representation and organizations pursuing issues of social significance.
The firm has an active pro bono practice concentrating on civil rights and human rights litigation. For example, we represent a number of individuals who have been subjected to mistreatment and indefinite detention at the U.S. facility in Guantanamo, Cuba and other U.S.-controlled facilities. We have been active on behalf of public interest groups supporting the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. We also represented individuals and advocacy groups in cases alleging that a mortgage lender targeted African-Americans for predatory loans, that a national restaurant chain discriminated in the provision of services to African Americans, and that a major toy retailer adopted a policy of refusing to accept checks at its stores in predominantly African-American neighborhoods. In addition, firm lawyers have handled complex asylum matters, represented immigrants in domestic violence and family law cases, and assisted low income, Spanish-speaking residents in understanding their legal rights.
The firm was awarded the 2007 Frederick Douglass Award from the Southern Center for Human Rights in recognition of efforts on behalf of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.
