As a former Associate Attorney at Van Ness Feldman LLP, I can say that my time there was a frustrating journey. The partners showed a complete lack of concern for employee growth and development, offering no mentorship or training opportunities. While the hours were not unreasonable for a DC firm, the lack of support for employees made for a challenging work environment.

Find a way to help the older staff that has been at the firm longer to be more open to ideas and opinions. I think that at some point, they stopped learning and it would benefit everyone at the firm if communication was better with ideas.
Having a laid back and very relaxed atmosphere really helps the firm. There isn't much stress (if any at all) and the staff enjoy coming into work. The workload is always manageable and there are often more interesting cases to work with.
Some of the staff have been there since the firm began and have a ""my way is the right way"" approach to tasks. In some cases, the thinking is really out dated and a more current approach is better.
