Help new people ease into the workload slowly instead of throwing them right into the fire. This should help the new people from getting overwhelmed.
Every day I come in and learn a new thing and meet new people. It is just exciting and fun here.
Some people may have a hard time keeping up with the fast paced nature of this firm. It is also possible that not everyone will enjoy learning new stuff.
My advice to management is to increase the pay scale to the industry's standard and also don't allow senior partners to get all of the good assignments.
This law firm was very laid back and there was not much stress when working on cases. Also, co-workers were very professional.
The pay was extremely low and way below the industry standards. In addition, the firm gave almost all of the best cases to senior partners so junior attorneys had to scrap for whatever else was left.
Seeing colleagues leave because of the lack of opportunity for promotion, or sometimes to become a partner, was discouraging and eventually lead me to leave the firm. When there is not as much of a general priority given to creating an actual partnership track for more junior staff to follow, the firm ultimately misses out on quality employees they could have retained and placed as potential partners. I would have appreciated a more formal partnership structure and process, even though I did not initially intend on staying through to partnership here.
Manageable billable hours but lower than average pay
Compared to other firms in the area, or even in the industry, the pay was considered lower than average. The heavy focus on partners and the priorities they are given far outweigh the attention given to other employees at the firm.
