After 7 years, it's pretty obvious that CRK is on to something with the empathy-driven management. It's a great place to work daily. The challenge, and the advice, is long term succession planning. There are associates in the firm who probably don't understand how different CRK is from other law firms.
The firm's "management by karma" philosophy works. Imagine experienced, successful, high EQ (for lawyers) business owners spending significant amounts of time thinking about (and implementing) ways to make employees and clients lives better.
Firm model provides unparalleled autonomy and responsibility, which can take some time to adjust to - firm-first, collaborative, self-starters thrive. Since empathy is a core value, you have to be able to see past yourself.
CRK's "no jerk" policy makes this a hard question to answer. I would say there are no partners to avoid. Of course, some are easier to build a rapport with than others.
This firm has less pretense than any other group of professionals I've ever seen. Humble, thoughtful, with an appreciation for humor, everyone of these folks makes an earnest effort to be a better team member every day.
Thank you.
