What would you, or others, like to see changed at employer?
Learn to listen to your attorneys. There has been nearly 100% turnover in 2017 and yet management still does not understand that the problem lies within the firm. Lower the case load, make everyone responsible for the same amount of work, and allow attorneys to reject claims as they see fit.
What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
There’s two good things about working there: your co-workers and the experience (if you can get over the panic attacks that accompany your case load). You will have cases in courts all over Ohio, in both state and federal court. You will defend numerous motions for summary judgment, file plenty of appeals, and you will become very good at defending against motions to dismiss. Since managing partner is in Aruba so often and the other more senior attorneys are swamped with their own case load, you will get to work very independently and figure things out on your own. For some this is a good learning experience.
In all honesty, it is the experience that earned Spitz Law Firm two stars. This is a generous rating but if you work hard during your time there you will have a lot of experience by the time another job offer presents itself.
What did you not like about this institution?
Do you remember when you were little and you accidentally slipped into the deep end of the swimming pool, causing you to think death was imminent until you made your way back to the shallow end? That’s what you feel like working at the Spitz Law Firm— except there is no shallow end.
Your case load will always be a problem. It is not unusual for attorneys at Spitz to have case loads in the high 80's (or higher).
