What would you, or others, like to see changed at employer?
I would advise the firm to be better at delegating work to employees or hiring some more staff members. The case load that comes in is sometimes a little much for the staff there to work on, with deadlines to have it completed. It would be really helpful to have a few extra hands on deck to help out.
What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
I am thankful that the staff and lawyers here are all compassionate and caring about the clients that we work with. We all take the time to listen to them and their needs before jumping into what legal things need to be done. Having the client feel like they are talking to someone who actually cares helps them to feel more at ease and not alone. The firm is always really good about making the case seem like it is our case and not just something we are doing for the client. I am always impressed with how well the staff and the lawyers work with people. It makes everyone want to be better at their jobs and keeps the morale up when you are dealing with cases that sometimes might not have the best situation.
What did you not like about this institution?
Sadly, there doesn't seem to ever be enough time in the day to do all the work that is needed at the firm. I am often taking some work home with me to finish.

What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
4.Current Employee, more than 10 yearsA Decent Law Firm/EmployerSenior Paralegal in Potomac, MDRecommendProsDecent work/life balance; congenial work environment and culture; multidisciplinary firm that offer a variety of legal services to clients (i.e., helps ensure profitability and job security during economic recessions); knowledgeable attorneys and friendly staff personnel.ConsCompensation is not always commensurate with skills, abilities, or training/knowledge; change in ownership/management has created some uncertainty; relatively high turnover among staff, particularly legal assistant and administrative staff; non-uniformity among policies and procedures between each department/practice group; management is often reactive to H.R. concerns rather than proactive, and communication between firm management and paraprofessionals/administrative staff is not always clear and as transparent as it could be.
