Keep it up! I don’t really have any qualms with management. Keep doing what you're doing and remain receptive to feedback from employees of all levels — I feel that’s the best thing any manager can do. When people feel “heard,” they're likely to feel more motivated to perform at their best.
What were the things that you liked most about this employer?
I loved working at Minyard Morris. I was new to law when I first started so there was a big intimidation factor initially, but I was set up with trainers/mentors right off the bat and I ended up learning SO much from these people through the years. I came out of that firm as a sharper and significantly more knowledgeable person solely because the people at Minyard Morris are so bright and they really try to educate you as much as they can so that you can thrive (paralegals and attorneys alike). I think that’s probably what I valued the most — the fact that so many people were willing to teach me and help build my career in any way they could. That kind of support can be tough to find in a workplace sometimes.
What did you not like about this institution?
This is a very personal “con” and doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the firm itself, but I’d say the “worst” part was that working in family law can sometimes be a stressful and emotionally draining experience, especially if your team has multiple high-conflict trials coinciding with each other. Facilitating so many divorces on a daily basis is no easy feat, but if you love family law and want to keep growing in this field, then this is where you should be. As long as you have no problems pulling your weight and working as a team, this really is a great place to work.
(I should emphasize that even though family law was ultimately not my forte, I ended up working here for as long as I did because I loved my co-workers so much. For me, working with great people was a lot more important than working at my dream job with unbearably horrible colleagues.)
People, departments, offices, products, services and whatever comes to mind that should be avoided at this institution
None. I’ve worked under all four of them at some point during my time there and I always felt valued and appreciated on each of their teams. They all have very different styles so I was always learning something new whenever I was assigned to any of their cases. Really good experience.
How could this employer run its business to employees or the public better?
The firm’s outstanding reputation; the office building itself; and all the people in it.
