Advice to law firm management: Give people a chance to get raises instead of bleeding employees every few years when they leave for better pay.

Pros: This firm seems to have everything that you would expect from a decent firm without any real fluff to distract.

Cons: The pay here is merely average and you are better off leaving after a few years to raise your wages as you likely won't ever get a raise.

Advice to law firm management: Management needs to step in at times and make decisions when employees can't. This will help move meetings and overall work along faster.

Pros: The people I work with at this company are some of the best I have ever worked with. Everyone is so friendly and polite and get along with one another tremendously. Meetings go great with everyone coming up with ideas and supporting everyone's ideas.

Cons: The problem with everyone being so nice at this firm is that it's difficult to make decisions sometimes. People are good at making suggestions, but coming up with a final solution can take a lot of time and effort.

We have more than 14 years of experience offering alternative fee arrangements and experience with law project management. We are proactive about discussing options with our clients. In 2010, we institutionalized a client feedback program based on those conducted by the Big Four accounting firms. Sixty of the firm's key clients have participated in the program. Armstrong Teasdale was ahead of other St. Louis law firms eight years ago when it switched to a merit-based compensation program from lock-step compensation. We were the first St. Louis law firm to form a social media practice, which helps clients maximize the benefits of using social media sites while minimizing the risks. Our program providing support to women lawyers was the first in this region when it was launched by management in 1998. It has served as a model for other firms in our area. Today, two of Armstrong Teasdale’s five practice group leaders are women, as is our general counsel and Diversity Committee chair.

Summer associate program


A high grade point average is great, but qualities like passion, curiosity, approachability and willingness to be coached are additional traits that we've found increase odds of a successful and gratifying legal practice.

Our associate summer program gives you the chance to use what you've learned but pushes and stretches you - all the while you're getting real law practice experience.

Don't worry about being stuck in the library or a file room for the summer. For several weeks, you'll be guided by a mentor and advisor and treated as a professional. You'll work with experienced attorneys on challenging matters. Every three to four weeks, you'll be assigned to a different practice group to expand your perspective and provide a broader experience. If you have a specific area of interest, we'll give you plenty of time to explore it.

You'll enjoy a full slate of planned activities that allow you to get to know our attorneys and the other summer associates in casual settings. Special seminars to teach soft skills, the business of law firms and trends in the legal profession are part of the summer curriculum.
