Partners to Avoid and Why: David Kasakove - a no talent lawyer who only got his position due to his ethnicity. William Hibsher - a snake in the grass. Austin Campriello - a nasty little man with a Napoleon complex.

Advice to law firm management: N/A

Pros: The original Robinson Silverman crew is especially bad. The original Bryan Cave crew is much better to work with. Figure out who is who.

Cons: I previously worked here as a junior associate in the New York office. You will only be treated well if you look like them and worship like them. My advice to associates is to save your money and upon the anniversary of your second year start applying to bigger and better firms. Use this place as a stepping stone.

Pro bono

Pro bono work at Bryan Cave includes a wide variety of both transactional and litigation matters, including intellectual property, criminal, corporate and transactional, appellate, family, tax, and civil rights litigation cases. Referrals from local legal services agencies and work for non-profit organizations make up much of the Firm's pro bono time.

Bryan Cave participates in the Pro Bono Institute Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge and encourages its attorneys to work at least 50 pro bono hours per year, although there is no minimum. In 2010, 68% of associates participated in pro bono work, and averaged 77 pro bono hours per associate.

  • A team of Bryan Cave lawyers represented Mueller Water Products Inc., a water infrastructure company that manufactures fire hydrants, valves and pipe fittings for the municipal and residential construction industries, in connection with its agreement to divest U.S. Pipe to Wynnchurch Capital Ltd. and The Comvest Group. The divestiture was valued at approximately $100 million.
  • The firm represented Ralcorp in the $2.6 billion merger between Ralcorp and Kraft Food's portfolio of cereals under the Post Cereal label.
  • Bryan Cave advised biotech major, Monsanto in its $290 million purchase of Aly Participacoes, a division of Brazilian global conglomerate Votorantim. Aly Participacoes operated two companies, CanaVialis S.A. and Alellyx S.A. which focus on sugarcane breeding and related applied genomics and biotech in the sugarcane industry.
  • It counseled Barnes & Noble, the bookseller, on its $596 million purchase of Barnes & Noble College Booksellers Inc., a division that had been spun off from Barnes & Noble in the mid-1980s. The acquisition closed on October 1, 2009.
  • A team of lawyers represented Neenah Paper Inc., a leading manufacturer of fine papers and technical products, in connection with its purchase of premium paper brands and related assets from a subsidiary of Wausau Paper Corp. Neenah expects annual sales from the acquired brands will be approximately $100 million.
  • A litigation team of Bryan Cave secured a significant trial victory on behalf of Union Pacific Railroad resulting in a jury verdict of $22.6 million.

Bryan Cave offers a 10-week summer program in all of its domestic offices. Summer associates are expected to complete about 15 assignments over the course of the summer. The firm also holds weekly training sessions for summer associates during the first few weeks of the program. The summer associates typically meet clients, attend hearings, and receive substantive work assignments where they can expect both formal and informal feedback on their work.
