Blank Rome LLP Reviews

Advice to law firm management: Institute a formal training program. Encourage people to cooperate and actually talk to each other. It's 2017. Treat women as equals.

Pros: Flexible work options including the ability to work from home. Required amount of billable hours is comparable to other firms this size.

Cons: There isn't much mentorship going on or defined procedures related to advancements and raises which can leave you feeling adrift and completely alone. This place has a rather prevailing sexism problem.

Advice to law firm management: This firm should consider stretching their long weeks into the shorter weeks, this way employees won't feel burnt out or that they have too little of work to do.

Pros: This law firm offers a great work environment that always feels calm and comfortable. Staff and management are very friendly and you always feel at ease when you walk in the door.

Cons: My only issues with this firm are the hours. They can be so back and forth at times with short weeks followed by incredibly long weeks. It would be nice if the work was more consistent.

Blank Rome is proud of its deep tradition of pro bono service which traces its roots to one of the Firm’s founding partners, Edwin P. Rome. Mr. Rome served as counsel for Aaron “Treetop” Turner, a client on Pennsylvania’s Death Row, representing him for more than 11 years and through five separate trials and appeals, until Mr. Turner was exonerated and freed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. For more than 65 years, Blank Rome’s core values of respect for the individual, the community, and the law have been expressed through our leadership in pro bono and community activities. Pro bono service is encouraged and supported across the Firm, through training and mentoring and a culture that recognizes the importance of ensuring that everyone has equal access to legal representation. Under the leadership of Grant Palmer, Chair of Blank Rome’s Pro Bono Committee, and Kathy Ochroch, Director of Pro Bono Services, the Firm has a formal pro bono policy that encourages each of our attorneys and paralegals to undertake at least 65 hours of pro bono service every year. To help attorneys and paralegals achieve this goal, they receive assistance with identifying pro bono opportunities that will be meaningful to them, and appropriate training and resources to support their endeavors.

Blank Rome's true capital is human capital. We offer innovative and imaginative solutions to the complex needs of our clients through the intellectual power of our lawyers and professionals, informed by their diverse attributes, backgrounds, and experiences.

On the Side of Inclusion

Blank Rome was formed in 1946 by lawyers who-because of their religion-were barred from joining many established law firms. The founders' vision for the Firm was of a place where people of diverse backgrounds could gather to practice law.

The Firm's diversity and inclusion goal is threefold: (1) to make Blank Rome a place where everyone can do their best work; (2) to make Blank Rome a place where everyone can bring their "whole selves" to work; and (3) to attract and harness our diverse talents and competencies to enhance the Firm's client service.

The team working on our diversity initiatives reports directly to our managing partner. With the support of Blank Rome's Diversity Cabinet, the Firm's Chief Officer of Diversity & Inclusion and the Firm's Diversity Program Specialist, we are carrying out initiatives to foster an environment of diversity and inclusion. These initiatives include recruiting and mentoring, opportunities for networking, participation in programs for career development and advancement, and outreach to the communities in which we have a presence.

The Firm launched firm-wide affinity groups for lawyers: Attorney of Color Affinity Group, the Women's Forum, and the LGBT Affinity Group. The affinity groups provide a forum for our women and diverse lawyers to network and exchange ideas. Members of the Diversity Committee are active participants in, and sponsors of, each affinity group.

Our affinity groups host dinners, receptions, and other events throughout the year that offer diverse lawyers and professionals the opportunity to build and strengthen relationships among our offices.

Summer associate program

Blank Rome LLP is exceptionally proud of its top-notch summer program. Our success is a reflection of both our dedicated recruiting committee and the commitment of our attorneys who provide Summer Associates with meaningful work opportunities, including attending client meetings and closings, along with significant professional and social interaction. Our program provides a rewarding and realistic introduction to the practice of law at Blank Rome. Summer Associates have the opportunity to select challenging assignments from all of the Firm's practice groups. Attorneys designated as Summer Program Co-Chairs ensure that all Summer Associates receive constant, meaningful feedback. Additionally, each Summer Associate is assigned an Associate and Partner mentor, who serve as an invaluable resource for questions regarding assignments, the Firm, and protocol. The Firm also offers extensive developmental training programs.

Our roots can be traced to attorney and art collector John G. Johnson, the most prominent and influential Philadelphia lawyer of the late 19th century. Mr. Johnson tried 182 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, and practiced law until his death in 1917, whereupon he bequeathed his collection of more than 1,200 paintings to the citizens of Philadelphia. Despite his death, attorneys who practiced under the esteemed Mr. Johnson continued to work together and founded in 1921 the genesis of what has ...
