Pro bono

Akin Gump has initiated a systematic and organized pro bono program that encourages every one of the firm's summer associates to work on pro bono cases. In 2012, every summer associate worked on pro bono matters. Various pro bono activities are undertaken by the firm that includes assisting battered immigrant women to adoption referrals to complicated asylum cases.

  • Akin Gump advised clients such as the AF Telecom in the $8.5 billion restructuring of the Russian phone operator MegaFon, Exxon Mobile in its multibillion dollar joint venture with Russian petroleum firm Rosneft and LUKOIL, which is Russia's second largest oil company.
  • An opinion in Brinker v. Superior Court, was issued by the California Supreme Court, which upheld the position of firm client Brinker International. This is one of the world's leading casual dining restaurant companies. This was a crucial decision for hundreds of thousands of employers and employees.
  • Akin Gump stood for the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Washington Mutual, Inc. in WMI's chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. Diversity
