Job Title: Summer Intern - 2026
Job Responsibilities:
1. Interns will gain experience in the practice of law and oral advocacy by working in prosecutors' offices.
2. Interns will handle in-court assignments typically managed by assistant prosecutors.
3. Interns will observe the inner workings of the criminal justice system.
4. Interns will engage in activities such as plea negotiations, bench trials, formal hearings, and case review. Some may appear at various family court proceedings.
5. Interns may have the opportunity to prepare and conduct one or more jury trials during the summer.
6. Interns will participate in a four-day training and orientation prior to starting the internship, which will orient them to the duties and responsibilities of prosecutors and provide an intensive overview of legal subjects and trial advocacy.
Education and Experience Information:
1. Applicants must be law students who have completed at least 40 credit hours of law school by May 8, 2026.
2. Applicants should have at least one semester (or term) of law school remaining after the completion of the internship.
3. Preference is given to candidates who have completed courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence by May 2026.
4. Applicants are expected to have an articulable interest in the criminal justice system, specifically in the field of prosecution.
5. Applicants must be Michigan residents or demonstrate an intent to practice in Michigan upon graduation.
Salary Information:
Interns will receive a salary of $9, for 11 weeks of work, based on a 40-hour workweek at a rate of per hour. Intern positions are at-will, and each intern serves at the pleasure of the host county prosecutor.
Additional Information:
- The internship program is administered by the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council (PACC), a state agency responsible for providing training, informational services, and technical assistance to Michigan's county prosecutors and their staff.
- There are typically about 20 internships available each summer in various locations across the state.
- Increased flexibility regarding geographic location improves the odds of being selected for an internship.
- Interns who live more than 50 miles from the area of the training will be provided lodging at no cost during the orientation and training period.
- The application deadline is September 26, 2025, for direct applicants, and those interviewing through on-campus interviewing must comply with school deadlines.

Application Process:
- Applicants attending law schools with on-campus interviews must submit their applications through that process.
- Applicants from schools without on-campus interviews should submit their applications to the designated PACC Training Attorney and Internship Coordinator.
- Required pre-interview materials include a cover letter, resume, PAAM's pre-interview survey, law school transcript (unofficial is acceptable), and a writing sample.
- PACC's executive staff will interview students and recommend intern candidates to each host county prosecutor, who will make the final hiring decision after consideration of all referrals and application materials. Additional interviews might be requested.
