Job Title: Domestic Violence Staff Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
The Domestic Violence Staff Attorney will provide high-quality, culturally competent civil legal services to victims of crime, particularly those experiencing domestic violence and/or sexual assault, as well as low-income individuals in Montgomery County. Key duties include:
- Managing a robust litigation caseload involving sensitive and traumatic circumstances with assertiveness, compassion, and good judgment.
- Providing advice, brief service, community legal education, and zealous representation to crime victims, especially victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, in a broad range of civil matters such as orders of protection, custody, matrimonial law, and child support.
- Implementing, maintaining records for, and reporting on assigned grants.
- Collaborating closely with local domestic violence service providers and actively participating in domestic violence task forces.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- 2-10 years of legal experience.
- Current admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and providing high-quality legal services to clients in civil matters.
- Prior experience representing victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in Family Court or relevant experience.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to help consumers address individual and systemic problems related to economic security and stability.
- Ability to identify and address systemic legal problems, work collaboratively with other staff, and handle high-volume caseloads.
- Strong organizational, time management, project management, written and oral communication, and computer skills.
- Reliable transportation and occasional travel required.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.
Salary Information:
The position offers a salary of $75,237 to $93,914 per year, dependent on experience. The role operates in a professional law office environment and may occasionally require carrying regular office supplies.
