The Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department is currently seeking applicants for positions in the Appellate Court Attorney Series. This position offers a base salary of $82,198 plus $4,775 location pay and is located in Brooklyn, NY.
Requirements for this position include graduation from an accredited law school with exceptional academic achievements, such as being a member of the law review, graduating in the top 10% of the class, or graduating cum laude or magna cum laude. In addition, applicants must be admitted to the New York State Bar within eighteen months of appointment.
As an Assistant Appellate Court Attorney, you will receive on-the-job instructions in researching and analyzing legal issues for the court. This position offers a confidential work environment and involves working under direct supervision in units located in the Appellate Divisions and the Appellate Terms of the Supreme Court.
Specific duties for this position include researching and analyzing legal issues, preparing preliminary reports and confidential memoranda, and reviewing draft decisions for accuracy of citations and conformance with the record on appeal. This position requires knowledge of the law and trial procedures, as well as the ability to organize, analyze, and interpret legal issues and communicate them clearly and succinctly. Maintaining strict confidentiality is also a crucial aspect of this position.
The Appellate Division, Second Department is a non-competitive and confidential classification. This means that applicants will be evaluated based on their qualifications and experience, rather than through a competitive examination process.
The location for this position is the Appellate Division, Second Department in Brooklyn, NY. However, the appointee may be subject to reassignment to any position in the same title in this promotion unit dependent upon the needs of the Unified Court System.
