Job Title: Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a large team responsible for handling all aspects of construction defect claims, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of highly complex and severe liability claims.
- Continuously develop team talent by creating growth opportunities and strengthening new skills among direct reports.
- Monitor team performance, analyze problematic trends to identify root causes, and escalate issues or recommend solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocate for a culture committed to identifying process efficiencies and improving work completion.
- Demonstrate passion and vision for a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, delivering continuous coaching, recognizing employees, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Promote claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholder expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes, and develop training solutions to sustain these practices within the organization.
- Identify technological changes to support execution of practices and workflows, collaborating with IT counterparts in design, build, and testing phases.
- Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and proactively manage team litigation.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, specifically in Construction Defect claim management.
- Expertise in handling claims across multiple jurisdictions.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- Ability to manage diverse claims teams across multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers responsible for all aspects of claims handling.
- Participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on coverage, liability, and damage assessment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including planning, organizing, delegating, and developing direct reports.
- Proficiency in persuading and influencing through superior written and oral communications.
- Possession of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Ability to embrace change, invite performance feedback, and deal constructively with criticism.
