The Assistant Attorney General position in the Public Access Bureau at the **Members Only** is a highly sought-after role for experienced attorneys with a passion for promoting transparency and accountability in government. The Public Access Bureau, within the Division of Public Access and Opinions, is responsible for reviewing denials of requests for public records under FOIA and investigating allegations of violations of OMA by public bodies. The Bureau also provides training and mediation services related to FOIA and OMA and assists the Public Access Counselor in other assigned tasks. As an Assistant Attorney General in this Bureau, you will have the opportunity to utilize your legal skills to promote transparency and accountability in government, while also engaging with citizens, government officials, and the media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and draft opinions on FOIA and OMA
- Mediate disputes between members of the public and public bodies
- Design and provide training on FOIA and OMA
- Assist the Public Access Counselor with other assigned tasks
Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess excellent legal research and writing skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with citizens, government officials, and the media. The ideal candidate will have previous experience with FOIA, OMA, or media-related issues. Candidates must also be licensed to practice law in Illinois at the time of application.
Salary:
The salary for this position is commensurate with the number of years of practice as a licensed attorney, with a starting salary of $81,000. The **Members Only** is committed to providing competitive compensation for its employees.
