**Job Title**: Assistant United States Attorney (Appellate)

**Job Responsibilities**:
The primary role of an Assistant United States Attorney in the Appellate Division involves representing the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. The responsibilities include preparing briefs and presenting oral arguments before the Court of Appeals. The Appellate Division is tasked with defending criminal convictions and civil judgments obtained by the office. Additionally, it brings affirmative appeals to the Eleventh Circuit from rulings adverse to the United States, following consultation with the Solicitor General's Office and the Criminal or Civil Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, . Appellate attorneys are also responsible for providing legal advice and consultation on legal matters to the United States Attorney and other attorneys in the office. They are assigned as liaisons to each branch office and each trial section in the Miami Office. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress.

**Education and Experience Information**:
Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (.) degree and be an active member of the bar in any . jurisdiction. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrated interest in appellate work, excellent writing and analytical skills, an exceptional academic background, and federal judicial clerkship experience. Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to function in a highly demanding environment with minimal guidance are also desirable. **Salary Information**:
The salary for an Assistant United States Attorney is administratively determined based on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay for grades AD 21 to 29 is $120,086 to $195,100, inclusive of a % locality pay.

**Additional Information**:
- Initial attorney positions to the Department of Justice are made on a 14-month temporary basis.
- Security requirements include satisfactory preemployment adjudication, fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- Residency requirements stipulate that Assistant United States Attorneys must reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
- Applicants must register with the Selective Service System, if applicable.
- Veterans' preference is considered a positive factor in attorney hiring, though no formal rating system is applied.
