Job Responsibilities:
The **Members Only** (OLC) offers law clerk positions to law students, providing them with practical experience in poverty law issues. The law clerks assist in litigation across various areas including housing law, family law, public benefits and healthcare, employment and farmworker law, immigration law, and civil rights. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting client and witness interviews
- Preparing clients for legal proceedings
- Assisting with the drafting of legal documents
- Researching current and emerging legal areas
- Participating in community outreach and education
- Representing clients at administrative hearings
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants for the law clerk positions should be law students with a demonstrated interest in poverty law issues. This interest can be shown through coursework, employment, volunteer activities, internships, or other relevant experiences. Essential skills for applicants include:
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Good communication skills
- High motivation
- Spanish communication skills are highly desired but not required
Salary Information:
Law clerk applicants are encouraged to seek funding from the Oregon State Bar or other sources. If external funding is not available, OLC may provide a stipend, contingent on their resources.
