The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York is seeking a Foreclosure Prevention Project Staff Attorney for our Plattsburgh office. In this role, you will provide legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure in Cliton, Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton Counties. Our service area spans sixteen counties in upstate New York, and we are committed to providing high-quality legal services to our clients.

Salary and Benefits:

- Annual salary of $37,937 to $93,914, dependent on experience

Organization Overview:

The Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York (LASNNY) is a nonprofit civil legal services program that serves low and moderate-income individuals in sixteen counties in upstate New York. We have six regional offices and a team of skilled, creative, and compassionate advocates who are dedicated to seeking justice and fairness for our clients.

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure, including advice, brief service, negotiation, and full representation in legal proceedings
- Engage in non-litigation advocacy with mortgage servicers, tax districts, and other local and state agencies
- Conduct outreach to prospective clients and attend community meetings and events
- Represent clients in multiple forums and areas of law related to housing and homeownership
- Manage case files and maintain accurate data for grant reporting

Requirements:

- Must be licensed to practice law in New York State or be eligible for admission
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and providing high-quality legal services
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, with excellent communication skills
- Sensitive to the needs of low and moderate-income households in crisis
- Previous experience in foreclosure representation, real estate, or housing law is preferred
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus

Work Environment:

As a Foreclosure Prevention Project Staff Attorney, you will operate in a professional law office environment, with occasional off-site work at court or community partner agencies. You will use standard office equipment and software, as well as remote videoconferencing platforms.
