Job Title: Deputy Prosecutor

Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy Prosecutor is tasked with providing professional legal services of considerable difficulty, primarily in criminal and juvenile prosecution. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including:

- Preparing and prosecuting cases in Tribal Court involving criminal and traffic charges, juvenile and status offender petitions, animal control violations, and child welfare matters, particularly those related to the placement of dependency cases.
- Advising the Police Department, Probation Department, and Social Services on the investigation and prosecution of crimes.
- Representing the Tribe in court for exclusion and extradition proceedings.
- Providing legal training to various departments on criminal law and child welfare/Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) issues when necessary.
- Participating in multi-disciplinary reviews with relevant departments.
- Coordinating or assisting in federal prosecution of offenders with agencies such as the FBI, BIA, and US Department of Justice, potentially serving as a specially appointed United States Attorney (SAUSA).
- Conducting legal writing, research, and trial preparation, including interviewing victims, witnesses, and drafting motions.
- Reviewing incoming cases to make probable cause determinations and requesting warrants and subpoenas from Tribal Court.
- Occasionally preparing and submitting appellate briefs and presenting oral arguments for appeal cases.
- Assisting and coordinating with outside law enforcement agencies to address and prosecute crimes.
- Assisting the Chief Prosecutor in drafting legislation and appearing/arguing cases before the Court of Appeals.
- Coordinating with CPS/Social Services for Indian Child Welfare cases.
- Referring appropriate defendants to diversion programs.
- Enforcing Criminal Tribal Gaming Violations at the Casino.
- Generating grant proposals and managing compliance and reporting for grants.
- Performing other duties as requested by a supervisor or director.

Education and Experience:
The position requires a Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA Accredited Law School and a minimum of six months of experience as a practicing Attorney. Additional qualifications include:

- Experience as a Prosecutor is preferred.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are preferred.
- A valid Arizona Driver's License is required.
- Admittance to the Arizona State Bar or Federal Bar, or authorization to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State or the District of Columbia, and maintaining good standing, is necessary.

Skills and Abilities:
The Deputy Prosecutor should possess:

- Knowledge of criminal, juvenile, and custodial laws, as well as criminal and civil procedures and administrative proceedings.
- Understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and its impact on Tribal child dependency matters.
- Skills in legal research, preparing legal documents, and trial litigation in various courts.
- The ability to analyze and organize facts, evidence, and precedents, and render clear written reports and oral arguments.
- Competence in interacting with Native Americans, particularly the Yaqui community, and maintaining effective working relationships with the public and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using office equipment and software applications.

Special Requirements:
- The role requires working non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.

Salary Information:
The annual salary for the Deputy Prosecutor position is $74,.
