Job Title: Associate Staff or Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze complex and factual issues and conduct extensive legal research to develop well-reasoned strategies.
- Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Prepare complex legal documents including pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs in support of defense strategies.
- Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve optimal results for insured clients.
- Provide effective and timely communications, legal advice, and services to clients on legal and factual issues.
- Communicate professionally with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
- Facilitate prompt and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence in trials, hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.
- Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
- Participate in team meetings and provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.
- Engage in claims file reviews and attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise.
Education and Experience Information:
Associate Attorney:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice in the state of California and in good standing.
- Legal internship or law clerk experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with the tripartite relationship is a plus.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills.
- Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
- Ability to think strategically and a desire to be challenged.
Staff Attorney:
- Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
- Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice in the state of California and in good standing.
- Trial experience is preferred.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to think strategically and a desire to be challenged.
- Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Salary Information:
The annualized base pay range is $81,840 to $172,200. The actual base pay could vary based on factors such as performance, proficiency, and competencies required for the role. The base pay is one component of the total compensation package, which may also include bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The salary range reflects the ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
Additional Information:
- The position offers a remote work opportunity with travel 1-4 days per week within Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, Van Nuys, and Oxnard, California.
