Job Title: Staff or Senior Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conducting extensive and well-reasoned legal research.
- Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy.
- Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for insured clients.
- Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients on legal and factual issues.
- Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion.
- Facilitate the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
- Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolutions.
- Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
- Participate in team huddles and provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.
- Participate in claims file reviews.
- Attend continuing legal education seminars to maintain a high level of professional expertise.
Education and Experience Information:
Staff Attorney:
- Minimum of 3 years of legal practice experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
- JD from an accredited law school and a license to practice in the state of California.
- Trial experience is preferred.
- Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Sr Staff Attorney:
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience handling complex workers’ compensation cases.
- JD from an accredited law school and a license to practice in the state of California.
- Trial experience is preferred.
- Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required.
Salary Information:
The annualized base pay range for this role is $114,800 - $192,000. This range is based on analysis of similar positions in the external market and may vary based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is a component of the total compensation package, which may also include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
Additional Information:
- This position offers a remote work opportunity, with travel required 1-4 days per week (pending future court openings) within Orange County, Anaheim, Santa Ana, Pomona, and Long Beach, California.
