The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Florida is seeking law students to join their team as legal interns. This opportunity provides students with the unique experience of working on criminal cases in federal court and gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of criminal defense. The internship is open to law students currently enrolled in law school and offers a non-salaried position.
Gain valuable experience in the preparation of criminal defense cases by conducting legal research and assisting in drafting motions and briefs. Interns may also have the opportunity to assist with trial preparation and case investigation, including meeting with clients and attending court proceedings.
The internship is typically assigned to work directly with one or more Assistant Federal Public Defenders (AFPDs) who will provide supervision and guidance. The office requests a minimum of 12 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week for summer interns.
