Special Counsel - Tax Litigation
The candidate will work independently to oversee all property tax litigation for the consolidated city and county while maintaining a personal docket focused on those cases having the most important policy or fiscal implications. Will advise the firm Assessor and other public officials on issues relating to tax litigation and protecting the property tax base. Prepare and responds to pleadings, written discovery, motions, briefs and other legal documents. Participates in depositions, hearings, and arguments. Represent clients before local and state agencies, in state courts including the Tax Court and Indiana Supreme Court, and may potentially represent clients in federal courts as well. Work closely with the Marion County Assessor and the Assessor's staff and must effectively delegate tasks to the Assessor's staff as appropriate. JD degree from an accredited college of university. Must be admitted to practice in the . District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Must have a 5+ years of practicing tax litigation with experience in property tax litigation; knowledge of the legislative process and legislative history. Knowledge of Indianapolis's Revised Code, and have experience practicing before both administrative tribunals and courts. Strong analytical and writing skills; strong oral presentation skills and a working familiarity with the Microsoft programs.
