Job Title: Employment Practices Liability - Staff Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle the defense of employment matters, including both non-litigated and litigated employment disputes.
- Respond to demand letters, state and federal agency charges, and lawsuits filed against the company's insureds.
- Investigate and manage assigned cases from inception to conclusion through dismissal, settlement, or trial.
- Collaborate with adjusters and insureds to resolve claims expeditiously and efficiently.
- Assist with general liability and/or professional liability matters as needed.
- Independently conduct depositions, pre-trial discovery, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal activities required to resolve cases.
- Communicate daily with claim professionals and clients concerning the evaluation of legal files.
- Provide legal advice to clients and claim professionals as needed.
- Negotiate settlements as authorized.
- Attend round tables and related strategy discussions.
- Travel within the state of California as required for case handling.
Education and Experience Information:
- Must be licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in California.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in employment litigation matters with an emphasis on representation of employers preferred.
- Strong knowledge of current procedural and substantive law, as well as federal, state, and administrative agency rules.
- Ability to analyze issues, develop effective strategies, communicate regularly and effectively with claims professionals and clients, document communications, and resolve cases efficiently.
- Solid experience in preparing responsive pleadings, handling court appearances, discovery, motion practice, valuation of claims, settlement conferences/mediations, and trials.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction, handle claims efficiently, and willingness to travel throughout California as needed.
Salary Information:
- Pay Type: Salary
- Hiring Minimum Rate: $130,000 USD
- Hiring Maximum Rate: $170,000 USD
