Job Title: Senior Tax Staff, Exempt Organizations
Job Responsibilities:
A Senior in the Exempt Organizations (EO) Tax Services practice at the company plays a critical leadership role within a specialized national team dedicated to serving the needs of tax-exempt clients. The EO team is known for its collaborative approach, combining extensive sector knowledge with tax technical expertise to deliver customized solutions that help organizations meet their compliance obligations and achieve their strategic goals. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Preparing and reviewing federal and state tax filings for exempt organizations, including Forms 990, 990-T, 990-PF, and related schedules.
- Assisting in identifying and resolving issues related to unrelated business income (UBI), compensation reporting, governance disclosures, and public support calculations.
- Researching and applying relevant IRS regulations and case law to client situations.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax issues and industry trends impacting exempt organizations.
- Managing multiple engagements concurrently while meeting internal and external deadlines.
- Coordinating effectively with internal teams and client contacts to gather data and ensure smooth delivery.
- Monitoring project timelines, budget adherence, and documentation requirements.
- Supporting the development and coaching of interns and staff through on-the-job training and constructive feedback.
- Actively contributing to a team-oriented culture that values learning, collaboration, and innovation.
- Participating in internal learning programs and contributing to the development of team tools and best practices.
Education and Experience Information:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- CPA/JD license or actively pursuing CPA designation.
- 3+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably with tax-exempt clients or nonprofit entities.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Form 990, 990-T, and 990-PF and related exempt organization tax issues.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Familiarity with tax compliance software such as CCH, 990 Tracker, or similar platforms.
- Exposure to or understanding of Alteryx.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role takes into account various factors considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $62, - $141, per year. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, as compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
