The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, managed by the Federal Public Defender, is currently offering a valuable opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience in federal criminal defense. This internship, available for both the spring and fall semesters, as well as the summer, provides law students with the chance to work closely with Assistant Federal Public Defenders and participate in all aspects of criminal defense in the federal court system.
As a legal intern, you will have the unique opportunity to conduct legal research, assist with drafting motions and briefs, and participate in trial preparation and case investigation. You will also have the chance to observe court proceedings, attend hearings and trials, and gain valuable insight into the federal criminal justice system. You will work closely with an AFPD who will assign and supervise your work, providing individualized attention and guidance throughout your internship.
We are looking for dedicated and motivated law students who are currently enrolled in law school. While this is an unpaid internship, we are happy to work with students who wish to receive school credit for their work. We request a minimum of 12 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week for summer interns, but we are willing to work with students to accommodate their school schedules.
