Job Overview:
A Chicago-based law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and driven associate to join its consumer bankruptcy practice. This position focuses on providing legal support to private individuals navigating Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings. The selected candidate will also represent clients in non-bankruptcy consumer debt disputes. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney passionate about advocating for individuals in financial distress and ready to contribute meaningfully to a client-centered legal team.
Duties:
Represent individual clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings
Advise clients on bankruptcy processes and debt relief options
Prepare and file bankruptcy petitions and related documentation
Handle adversary proceedings and contested matters within the bankruptcy court
Defend clients in consumer debt litigation outside of bankruptcy court
Conduct client consultations, assess financial situations, and recommend legal strategies
Draft legal memoranda, motions, and pleadings
Maintain ongoing communication with clients to ensure clarity and responsiveness
Attend court hearings and advocate on behalf of clients
Requirements:
Legal experience in bankruptcy or a related practice area
Familiarity with both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 procedures
Confidence in managing a high-volume caseload
Ability to work independently and within a collaborative legal team
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in the state of Illinois
Skills:
Strong legal research and analytical capabilities
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency with legal practice management systems and court filing platforms
