Job Responsibilities

The Head of Construction Defect Claims is a pivotal role within the company, overseeing a large team responsible for managing all aspects of construction defect claims. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the business and exemplary claims handling practices. Key responsibilities include:

- Leading the development and performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, ensuring claims of the highest complexity and severity are resolved with quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Developing talent within the team by creating opportunities for skill growth and strengthening new abilities.
- Monitoring team performance to identify and analyze problematic trends, identifying root cause problems, and escalating issues or recommending solutions to operational leadership.
- Promoting a culture of process efficiency to continuously improve work completion.
- Demonstrating a commitment to fostering a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, providing continuous coaching, recognizing employees to reinforce service excellence, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Advocating for claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identifying changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high quality outcomes, and developing training solutions to embed and sustain those practices within the organization.
- Collaborating with IT counterparts to support the execution of best practices and workflows, and participating in the design, build, and testing of technological changes.
- Utilizing data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Developing coverage acumen and ensuring proactive management of team litigation.

Education and Experience Information

- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with substantial experience in managing Construction Defect claims.
- Expertise in handling claims in multiple jurisdictions.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required. An advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- Experience in managing a diverse group of claims teams across multiple locations.
- Ability to directly manage and guide a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on issues related to coverage, liability, and assessment of damages.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
- Proficiency in persuading and influencing people through superior written and oral communications, explaining concepts clearly, effectively challenging ideas, and advocating for one's point of view.
- Possession of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- An openness to change, receptiveness to feedback related to performance, and the ability to deal constructively with criticism.
