Job Title: Civil Practice Legal Intern - Fall 2025
Job Responsibilities:
Legal interns will work under the supervision of Civil Practice attorneys at the organization. Interns will engage in activities aimed at improving the lives of low-income individuals and families by helping them secure basic necessities such as housing, healthcare, food, and income. The attorneys focus on enhancing family and community stability by resolving a variety of legal issues, including but not limited to anti-eviction, domestic violence, family law, immigration, employment, tax, health, elder law, HIV/AIDS, and consumer law. Interns will have the opportunity to attend intern trainings, webinars, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions related to their internship.
Intern duties may include:
- Drafting motions, pleadings, memoranda of law, and affidavits.
- Conducting legal research.
- Attending court and administrative hearings with attorneys.
- Assisting with client interviews.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must be current 2L or 3L law school students in good standing.
- Relevant clinical program or work experience is preferred but not required.
- A demonstrated commitment to serving racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities is essential.
- The ability to work collegially and collaboratively with staff members is important.
- Candidates should possess the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and think critically.
- Fluency in languages besides English, particularly Spanish, is helpful but not required.
Stipends and Benefits:
Interns who meet eligibility criteria may receive a $1,000 stipend from the Howard Rossbach fund. This stipend supports 4-5 interns annually who demonstrate financial need and lack funding for their internship. To be eligible for the stipend, interns must:
- Be enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited institution.
- Complete the Howard Rossbach Internship Stipend Form when submitting their internship application.
- Be accepted to participate in an internship program at the organization.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Lack funding for their internship.
- Submit a statement reflecting a strong interest in working at the organization upon graduation.
The stipend is awarded through a lottery system if more eligible applicants than available stipends exist. The stipend will be treated as taxable income.
