Insurance Defense Trial Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
As an Insurance Defense Trial Attorney at the company, you will be responsible for representing the company and its policyholders in complex civil litigation matters. These cases often involve claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage with mid to high level exposure. Your duties will include:
- Managing the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings.
- Negotiating settlements as required.
- Researching all applicable laws and findings to develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation and sharing them with claims representatives and insured clients.
- Establishing and maintaining good relationships with claims representatives and clients, and occasionally conducting training sessions for legal, claims, or other departments.
- Developing and rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies, and drafting legal documents, pleadings, motions, and opinions.
- Providing guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks.
- Collaborating with the Home Office Legal team.
Education and Experience Information:
- Membership in the Texas Bar is required.
- Special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred.
- A minimum of five years of successful experience as a first chair in legal proceedings is required.
- Experience in insurance defense is strongly preferred.
- A JD degree is required.

Salary Information:
- The position is full-time with a minimum salary of USD $100, per year and a maximum salary of USD $173, per year.
- The typical starting salary range is between $118,000 and $136,500.
- The salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
- Some roles at the company have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
