Position Title: Staff Attorney for Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals Program
Job Responsibilities
The Staff Attorney will work to hold industrial polluters and federal and state agencies accountable for compliance with the Clean Air Act and other environmental laws. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, analyzing, and executing legal strategies to reduce air and other pollution.
- Performing a range of litigation and legal tasks to support administrative advocacy and litigation efforts, including legal research, drafting comments, complaints, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses, and oral advocacy.
- Working with internal and external experts to develop the factual, technical, and scientific bases to support the organization's advocacy efforts.
- Representing the organization and other entities in federal and state litigation, administrative proceedings, and public meetings.
- Managing client relationships and working effectively within coalitions.
- Drafting grant proposals and reports.
- Collaborating with the organization's communications and research teams to develop and execute communications strategies and reports.
Education and Experience Information
- An active bar membership in good standing in Texas or Louisiana, or a willingness to apply for admission to one of these bars within six months of accepting the job.
- A minimum of 3 years of legal experience, particularly in environmental and/or administrative law. Ideally, candidates will have experience with the Clean Air Act.
- Excellent analytical, research, writing, organizational, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for protecting public health and the environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
- Prior experience or demonstrated commitment to working with communities directly impacted by pollution.
- Strong work ethic, robust problem-solving skills, and sound judgment.
Salary Information
The organization offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. The salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary range is $80,000 – $115,000.
