Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer Legal Fellow

Job Responsibilities:

- Support Staff Attorneys in litigating matters in Housing Court
- Engage in legal research and writing
- Conduct client intakes and outreach
- Correspond with social service agencies to support clients' cases
- Attend building-wide and/or client meetings
- Deliver files, checks, and documents to staff attorneys in court

Education and Experience Information:

The position is intended for law students seeking legal internships. Project Description:

The Safety Net Project provides free legal services to low and no-income households through legal clinics set up at food pantries, soup kitchens, and community health centers across New York City. The project aims to minimize evictions, ensure necessary apartment repairs for tenants, and secure crucial public benefits for eligible individuals. It combines legal services, policy advocacy, new media campaigns, and community organizing to advance economic justice.

Organization Description:

The organization serves New York City's most vulnerable residents through direct legal service, systemic advocacy, community education, and political organizing. With 12 projects, the organization assists clients on multiple levels, from offering one-on-one legal advice in soup kitchens to filing class action lawsuits for systemic change and advocating for social justice legislation.
