Job Title: Associate General Counsel – Physician/Faculty Contracting

Job Responsibilities:
The Associate General Counsel for Physician/Faculty Contracting at a reputed firm plays a critical role in providing legal support and advice to the Faculty Group Practice (FGP) and its ambulatory network. The main responsibilities include:

- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements and contracts related to physician employment, professional services, space leasing, licensing, physician practice acquisition, affiliation, and clinical network development. This ensures consistency with business terms, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Providing legal reviews of physician and research faculty employment agreements to assure consistency with business terms, objectives, regulatory compliance, and School of Medicine policies. The role involves advising designated FGP and other clinical affairs administrators on issues, drafting amendments, and negotiating with physicians' legal counsel.
- Participating in negotiations concerning physician recruitment, including employment and independent contractor agreements, physician license agreements, and practice acquisitions.
- Offering assistance and training to FGP and other clinical affairs administrators and contracting staff in relevant legal and contracting areas.
- Performing principal legal research and document preparation related to physician integration initiatives and related contractual matters, including reviewing compensation arrangements for fair market value and preparing supporting legal memoranda as necessary.
- Drafting various template physician employment agreements and developing appropriate legal contract clauses, including updates as needed. This involves reviewing and assessing if the templates can be improved, combined, or streamlined.
- Overseeing and directing FGP Contract Specialists/Analysts and paralegals in managing the physician contracting and recruitment process to ensure compliance with the institution's policies, processes, and requirements.
- Serving as the legal team lead on the development and implementation of an institutional contract management database.
- Handling multiple assignments simultaneously and meeting deadlines independently.
- Collaborating with a wide variety of business personnel.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the position of Associate General Counsel, candidates must have:

- At least five years of experience in healthcare law, either at a law firm or in-house.
- Experience in drafting, negotiating, and advising on healthcare agreements, including employed and contracted physician arrangements or agreements related to the management and operation of physician group practices.
- Expertise in regulatory and transactional healthcare matters.
- Thorough knowledge of New York State and federal healthcare laws, including Stark and Anti-Kickback laws as applied to provider contracting.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, strong research and legal interpretation abilities, and an exceptional client service orientation.

Preferred qualifications include experience as legal counsel in an academic medical center or hospital system. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Associate General Counsel role is between $215, and $250, annually. Actual salaries depend on various factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital needs. The salary range does not include bonuses, incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
