**Job Responsibilities:**
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. offers a structured 53-week clerkship program across various courts including the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Superior Court, and Tax Court. Law clerks are expected to perform a variety of duties depending on their court assignment:
- **Supreme Court Clerks:** Work with justices on complex legal cases, conduct legal research, prepare written memoranda on novel legal issues, and assist in the preparation of opinions.
- **Appellate Division Clerks:** Conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions. Clerks are responsible for preparing weekly memos, editing opinions, handling emergent applications, and assisting judges with research projects.
- **Trial Court Clerks:** Gain practical experience by observing judicial proceedings, attending conferences, and receiving mediation training. They mediate small claims cases and summarize information for judges.
- **Tax Court Clerks:** Engage in duties similar to those of Appellate Division and trial court clerks, focusing on judicial tax challenges. They review motions, conduct legal research, draft case management orders, and assist with remote proceedings.
- **Assignment Judge Clerks:** Assist with court administration and processing emergent motions. They conduct research, prepare legal memos, manage the judge’s docket, and communicate with counsel and staff.
- **Family Division Clerks:** Handle legal research, assist with remote proceedings, draft legal opinions, and manage adjournment requests. They work on cases involving adoption, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence, and more.
- **Civil Division Clerks:** Prepare bench memoranda, perform legal research, draft legal orders, and manage the motion calendar. They gain experience in a wide range of legal issues, from personal injury to complex business litigation.
- **Criminal Division Clerks:** Conduct legal research, draft jury instructions, manage the motion calendar, and assist with case management. They work on cases involving various criminal offenses and participate in the Recovery Court program.
- **General Equity Clerks:** Conduct legal research, review case files, prepare bench memoranda, draft orders, and assist in processing emergent temporary restraining order applications.
**Education and Experience Information:**
- Candidates must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association within the last four years.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential.
- Completion of a mediation course is beneficial, and trial court clerks must complete a 12-hour mediation training or equivalent.
- Applicants must provide an official, final law school transcript upon hire.
**Salary Information:**
Salaries for the 2024-2025 court term are provided and may vary based on funding availability for the 2025-2026 term:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900
