Job Title: Fall Internship

Job Responsibilities:
Interns in Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García's office will engage in a variety of tasks that provide exposure to different aspects of legislative and community work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing phone calls from constituents, assisting with constituent casework, answering constituent requests, sorting mail, attending community meetings, briefings, and events, assisting with planning official events, and supporting community outreach efforts. The internship is designed to provide experience in areas including constituent services, scheduling, office administration, press and communications, and community outreach.

Education and Experience Information:
While enrollment in a higher education institution is not required, the internship program is open to all candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience and skills. The office is committed to building a team with diverse lived and professional experiences that equip the team to serve the Illinois 4th District effectively. Candidates are encouraged to articulate in their cover letter how their experiences align with the needs of the office and the role. Ties to the Illinois 4th District are preferred but not required.

Salary Information:
Interns are compensated at a rate of $15/hour unless they are substantially sponsored by an external organization. Note that unless an applicant is financially sponsored by an outside organization, House rules require all paid House of Representative Employees to be United States citizens or Legal Permanent Residents.

Additional Information:
The Chicago and Suburban District Offices operate Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Central Time. Individuals with ties to Illinois are strongly encouraged to apply.
