Job Title: Senior Practitioner in Residence
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Practitioner-in-Residence will be responsible for representing both detained and non-detained immigrants in legal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. The individual will also play a crucial role in developing a federal court litigation practice with a particular focus on habeas corpus claims to challenge ongoing unlawful detention and appeals before Circuit Courts. Working closely with the detention team, the Senior Practitioner-in-Residence will contribute to the goal of providing universal representation to immigrants detained in New Jersey.
Education and Experience Information:
Required Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor (.) or Master of Laws (.) degree.
- Membership in a bar of any state, with New Jersey bar membership being a plus but not mandatory.
- A minimum of 5-6 years of experience in immigration law.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in habeas litigation in federal court is preferable.
- A commitment to ensuring access to counsel and due process for both detained and non-detained immigrants.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A strong preference for candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish.
Licenses and Certificates:
- A . or . degree and membership in a bar of any state, with New Jersey bar membership being a plus but not mandatory.
Salary Information:
Salary Grade: AD190 - Administrative
The position is classified as exempt.
