Job Title: Florida Attorney General's Internship Program - Law Student Intern

Job Responsibilities:
Interns in the Florida Attorney General's Internship Program are involved in various legal divisions and bureaus. They gain practical experience in a legal field and perform meaningful work towards the completion of their degree. The divisions include:

- Antitrust: Enforcing state and federal antitrust laws through civil investigations and litigation. Reviewing proposed mergers and acquisitions. Providing antitrust counsel for the State and its agencies.

- Consumer Protection: Enforcing the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. Investigating and litigating against unconscionable, deceptive, or unfair practices. Partnering with other state attorneys general and agencies in joint enforcement efforts.

- Criminal and Capital Appeals: Representing and defending State prosecutions in all criminal appeals. Handling death penalty litigation statewide.

- Civil Litigation: Representing the State, its agencies, officers, and employees in state and federal courts. Handling civil actions including administrative, bankruptcy, corrections, employment, forfeitures, foreclosures, state programs, and tort litigation.

- Complex Litigation: Handling high-impact, high-visibility cases, often involving constitutional challenges or complex management.

- Civil Legal Services: Providing legal services required by State agencies, including legal representation in various courts and general counsel services.

- Child Support Enforcement: Representing the Department of Revenue in actions such as establishing paternity, support enforcement, and modifications of child support orders.

- Revenue Litigation: Representing the Florida Department of Revenue in contested tax assessments and other tax-related matters.

- Ethics: Prosecuting potential violations of the Florida Code of Ethics. Serving as prosecutors for the Ethics Commission.

- Lemon Law: Enforcing compliance with Florida’s motor vehicle “Lemon Law” and resolving consumer-manufacturer disputes.

- Medicaid Fraud Control: Investigating and prosecuting Medicaid fraud, patient abuse, neglect, and exploitation in facilities receiving Medicaid payments.

- Statewide Prosecution: Prosecuting crimes impacting two or more judicial circuits in Florida, focusing on organized criminal activity.

- Cyber Fraud Enforcement: Combating cybercrimes related to fraud and identity theft. Investigating and prosecuting multi-circuit crimes facilitated by the internet.

- Office of the Solicitor General: Handling the State’s most sensitive litigation, supervising civil and criminal appeals, and advising the Attorney General.

Education and Experience Information:
The internship program is open to students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school. It offers unpaid internships for academic credit and through participation in law school-sponsored programs such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School sponsored clinics, and Law School Paid Stipend programs.

Requirements for applicants include:
- Being enrolled and eligible to receive academic credit or participate in a law school-sponsored program.
- Availability to intern a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Submission of an application, résumé, letter from an advisor or university, and an official transcript (unofficial transcripts accepted initially).

2nd and 3rd year law students are expected to provide a writing sample at the time of the interview if selected.

Salary Information:
The internship is unpaid. Interns will not be compensated or eligible for benefits, except for Worker’s Compensation benefits with the State of Florida or the Office of the Attorney General for voluntary unpaid work performed.
