Job Title: Tax Manager, State Income and Franchise - Multistate
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager within the Multistate Tax Services group, your primary responsibilities will include providing tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse client base across various industry sectors. You will work directly with clients, manage the tax engagement team, and have access to a group of specialists and support from company leadership to ensure success. Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and developing strong client relationships on various tax consulting and compliance engagements.
- Advising clients on multistate tax planning, accounting for income taxes, restructuring, audit defense, and due diligence.
- Overseeing complex state tax compliance and consulting projects, requiring tax analysis for various entities and their affiliates.
- Researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues, including apportionment methodology, unitary filings, and nexus considerations.
- Managing engagement workflow, team resources, and engagement billing.
- Providing leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team.
Education and Experience Information:
Required qualifications for the role include:
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model, requiring US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2-3 days per week.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in state income and franchise tax.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- One of the following active accreditations: Licensed CPA in the state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA, or if not CPA eligible, a licensed attorney or Enrolled Agent.
- Ability to travel 10% on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
Preferred qualifications include:
- An advanced degree such as a Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA firm.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Solid understanding and experience with state tax compliance, tax planning, tax analysis, and tax research.
- Strong management experience.
Salary Information:
The wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors, including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $93,660 to $213,200. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Additionally, candidates may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the program's rules, which depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.
