Job Title: Summer Intern - 2026 Summer Intern Program
Job Responsibilities:
Interns participating in the 2026 Summer Intern Program offered by a reputed firm will gain invaluable experience in the practice of law and oral advocacy by working directly in prosecutors’ offices. The primary responsibilities for interns include:
- Handling in-court assignments that are typically managed by assistant prosecutors.
- Engaging in plea negotiations, bench trials, formal hearings, and case reviews.
- Participating in various family court proceedings.
- Preparing and potentially conducting one or more jury trials during the summer.
- Representing the People of the State of Michigan in court proceedings under the authority granted by Michigan Court Rule .
Interns are expected to complete an 11-week internship and will receive compensation for their work, with a salary of $9, based on a 40-hour workweek at a rate of per hour. The intern positions are at-will, and each intern serves at the discretion of the host county prosecutor.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for this internship, candidates must meet the following educational and experiential criteria:
- Must have completed at least 40 credit hours of law school by May 8, 2026, and be a student in good standing.
- Must have at least one semester (or term) of law school remaining after the completion of the internship.
- Should be a Michigan resident or demonstrate an intent to practice law in Michigan upon graduation.
- Must show an articulable interest in the criminal justice system, with a specific focus on prosecution.
- Preference is given to candidates who have completed the following courses by May 2026: criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence.
Additional Information:
- The program offers approximately 20 internships across various locations in Michigan, and interns are encouraged to demonstrate flexibility regarding geographic location to improve their chances of selection.
- Selected interns must attend a mandatory four-day training and orientation session in the Lansing area in May 2026. This training provides an overview of legal subjects and trial advocacy. Although interns will not be paid during the training, most meals and materials are covered, and lodging is provided for those living more than 50 miles from the training location.
