Job Title: Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with judges and justices in various New Jersey courts including the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Superior Court, and Tax Court.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex legal issues.
- Prepare legal memoranda, emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions.
- Assist with court administration, processing emergent motions, and case management.
- Mediate small claims cases (for trial court law clerks).
- Observe judicial proceedings, attend conferences with attorneys and judges, and summarize information for judges.
- Draft case management orders, legal documents, and manage motion calendars.
- Communicate with attorneys, self-represented litigants, and court staff.
- Assist or act as a moderator for remote proceedings.

Education and Experience Information:
- Must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of appointment.
- The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as graduating within the last four years.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential.
- Completion of a course in mediation is helpful, and trial court law clerks who will serve as mediators must complete Judiciary-sponsored mediation training or its equivalent.

Salary Information:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900

Additional Information:
- The position offers a hybrid work schedule with up to four days per month of remote work.
- Applicants must have high-speed home internet access and install a multifactor authentication app.
- US citizenship is not required, but candidates must be authorized to work in the US.
- A thorough background check, including fingerprinting, is required.
- Approximately 480 clerkships are available annually.
- Law clerks may hold outside employment with prior approval as per the Code of Conduct for Judiciary Employees.
- Law clerks are exempt from the New Jersey residency requirement during their court term.
