A law firm seeks a highly experienced Patent Attorney specializing in hard sciences to lead prosecution, counseling, and enforcement of complex patent portfolios. The successful candidate will deliver strategic intellectual property solutions for cutting-edge technology clients and manage cross-functional teams to drive innovation protection.

Duties

  • Prepare, prosecute, and maintain patent applications before the . Patent and Trademark Office and select foreign jurisdictions
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement analyses for hard-science technologies (., chemistry, biotech, materials science)
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio development, licensing strategies, and patent landscape assessments
  • Draft and negotiate license agreements, joint-development agreements, and confidentiality arrangements
  • Manage patent litigation support, including claim construction, expert coordination, and technical demonstrations
  • Collaborate with inventors, research teams, and external counsel to refine IP strategies
  • Mentor associates and coordinate paralegal activities for docketing and document preparation

Requirements

  • Nineteen years of patent prosecution and counseling experience in hard sciences disciplines
  • Admission to the Texas Bar (active) and registration to practice before the USPTO
  • Proven track record of securing and enforcing high-value patent rights
  • Excellent client development and relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage complex matters across multiple jurisdictions under tight deadlines

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Advanced technical degree (MS or PhD) in a hard science discipline

Certifications

  • Registered Patent Attorney with the . Patent and Trademark Office
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Texas
