Job Title: Communications Intern (Fall 2025)
Job Responsibilities:
The Communications Intern at the organization will engage in a variety of tasks that encompass story writing, digital outreach, media relations/public relations, and research/reporting. Specific responsibilities include:
- Story Writing: Participate in client interviews and draft stories, review/edit stories, and consolidate stories for the organization's storybank.
- Digital Outreach: Assist in developing social media content for the organization's channels, conduct social media influencer research, help maintain and update the website, conduct Google Analytics analyses, and assist in preparing Constant Contact email newsletter outreach.
- Media Relations/Public Relations: Prepare resources and background materials, including research and drafting press-related correspondence. Participate in brainstorming to develop creative angles for media outreach and PR campaigns and provide thorough debriefing of PR activities.
- Research/Reporting: Monitor and report on the online activities of relevant organizations, report on the performance of social media platforms for the communications team, and attend relevant events such as coalition meetings or DC Council hearings/roundtables.
- Branding and Printing: Assist with branding and printing of materials for the move to a new office in early November.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must be a current or former student or have relevant work experience in the areas of writing (., fine arts, English, etc.), communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations. A minimum of 10 hours per week during the fall semester is required, with at least 1 year of higher education or relevant experience preferred.
Salary Information:
The internship positions at the organization are unpaid, though they can be taken for credit.
Hybrid Working Conditions:
The organization operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring employees to work in-person at the organization's office in Washington, DC, a minimum of two days per week. One of these days must be either Tuesday or Wednesday. The hybrid work schedule is subject to change based on organizational needs and/or best practices for health and safety. Hybrid work expectations may vary depending on role responsibilities.
