Job Title: Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead a large team responsible for handling all aspects of construction defect claims, ensuring thorough understanding and best-in-class claims handling.
- Develop and enhance the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams by ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of complex and severe liability claims.
- Continuously develop talent by creating growth opportunities for direct reports and strengthening new skills.
- Monitor team performance, analyze problematic trends to identify root causes, and escalate issues or recommend solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocate for a culture committed to process efficiency improvements to enhance work completion.
- Foster an effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, providing continuous coaching, recognizing employees, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Advocate for claims customer service excellence by understanding customer experiences and exceeding stakeholder expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to achieve high-quality outcomes, and develop training solutions to sustain these practices.
- Identify technological changes to support practice and workflow execution, collaborating with IT counterparts for design, build, and testing.
- Utilize data and analytics for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and ensure proactive litigation management by the team.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, particularly in Construction Defect claim management.
- Expertise in multi-jurisdictional claims.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required; advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), preferred.
- Ability to manage diverse claims teams across multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims handling.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on issues surrounding coverage, liability, and damage assessment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including planning, organizing, delegating, and developing direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communications, effectively challenging ideas and advocating for one's viewpoint.
- Possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Ability to embrace change, invite feedback on performance, and deal constructively with criticism.
