Job Title: Assistant County Attorney III, Non-Supervisory (Child Welfare) - Non-Merit

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant County Attorney III, under the general supervision of the County Attorney, Deputy County Attorney, or designee(s), is primarily responsible for handling child welfare cases through civil litigation on behalf of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. government. The role involves:

- Conducting litigation in the Circuit Court for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., with a focus on child welfare cases.
- Engaging in legal research as necessary to support case preparation and strategy.
- Preparing and filing proposed court orders, pleadings, reports, and proposed exhibits using the Maryland Electronic Court System (MDEC).
- Preparing and presenting witness testimony and evidence in contested hearings.
- Offering general legal advice and responding to subpoenas.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the County Attorney or their designee within the Office of Law.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

- Graduation from an accredited law school recognized by the American Bar Association (ABA).
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Maryland or eligible to waive into the Maryland Bar.
- At least 15 years of experience in trial work, legal writing, municipal law, and practice before Circuit and District courts is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicants should possess:

- Comprehensive knowledge of the Maryland Rules, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and Local Rules for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
- Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Familiarity with County best practices and procedures.
- Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex legal matters.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Capability to establish and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships both within and outside the department.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
- Professionalism and a strong sense of ownership for tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with the public and various agencies.
- Proficiency in technology, including electronic discovery coordination and Microsoft Office software, as well as legal research platforms like Westlaw.
- Willingness to work with minimal administrative support.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position ranges from $95, to $122, annually.

Conditions of Employment:
Candidates selected for this position must successfully complete an employment background investigation, which includes a criminal background check, education verification, and fingerprinting check.

Applicants who have obtained a degree outside the United States must submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc.
