Job Title: Assistant Attorney General
Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General (AAG) in the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is tasked with investigating incidents across New York State where a police officer or peace officer, including corrections officers, has caused the death of a person. If the investigation warrants, the AAG will seek to file charges related to the incident and prosecute any resulting indictment. The position offers an opportunity to collaborate with a team of experienced prosecutors, legal support staff, and detective investigators to bolster public trust in the criminal justice system. The AAG will report directly to OSI’s Downstate Deputy Bureau Chief.
Education and Experience Information:
- A minimum of six (6) years of experience in criminal prosecution and/or criminal defense is required, with significant experience in homicide trials and investigations.
- The candidate must possess excellent legal writing and research skills, along with strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and teamwork capabilities.
- Experience with complex cases in the grand jury is advantageous.
- Preferred experience includes handling cases that involve issues of causation, justification, or complex felony prosecutions.
- Experience working with diverse communities and engaging in community outreach is considered a plus.
- The role may require working outside of normal business hours and traveling outside the county of employment on an as-needed basis.
- Candidates must reside in New York State or intend to become residents soon and must be admitted to practice law in New York State.

Salary Information:
