Job Title: AVP, Claims
Job Responsibilities:
The AVP, Claims Coverage Counsel is tasked with a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the accurate application of coverage under various insurance policies, including Commercial General Liability (CGL), Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL), Professional Liability (E&O), and Environmental Impairment Policies. The primary duties include:
- Conducting comprehensive coverage investigations and issuing coverage position letters in a timely manner.
- Collaborating with claim adjusters to provide expert advice on coverage investigations.
- Offering guidance to claim adjusters and management concerning obligations related to complex claims and multiple coverages.
- Drafting coverage position letters, disclaimers, and responses to tenders.
- Consulting with the underwriting manager and program manager on policy language and emerging trends.
- Investigating potential misstatements or misrepresentations by insureds in insurance applications, reviewing underwriting files when necessary, and advising management on findings.
- Coordinating with outside coverage counsel to ensure effective litigation, reviewing opinions and research from counsel, and advising management accordingly.
- Preparing memorandums on significant coverage issues and trends related to specific claims.
- Participating in regular calls, roundtables, and conferences related to the program.
Education and Experience Information:
- A is required for this position.
- The candidate must have over 10 years of experience as a coverage attorney or claims coverage counsel, with a strong background in legal research, analysis of applicable laws, and policy provisions.
- Experience with primary claims under CGL policies is necessary, with a strong preference for experience in environmental coverages, including environmental impairment, contractors pollution liability, and professional liability coverage. Experience with excess coverage is also preferred.
- The candidate should possess an in-depth knowledge of coverage investigations and evaluations, focusing on developing and executing resolution strategies.
- Litigation experience is preferred.
- Excellent reasoning, written, and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Proper attorney and/or adjuster licensing is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
